Evaporation
The Effects of Various Cover Types
Who: CPSA(California Pool & Spa Association), NPC(National Plasterers Council), APSP(Association of Pool and Spa Professionals), Independent Pool & Spa Service Association & World of Recreational Water
Where: National Pool Industry Research Center at California Polytechnic State University. Test pools.
What: To determine how much evaporation could be blocked by the use of various cover types & to compare the savings of different types of covers.
High Range
-Foam (Spa type) 95.0% Efficiency
-Bubble 94.9%
-Solid Track 93.9%
Medium Range
-Solar Disks 50.1%
Low Range
-Liquid Evaporation Suppresant 14.4-15.8%
Estimated 50”-80” per year per pool of evaporation. To cut that number to even 60” average per year per pool would result in the savings of 9.5 Billion gallons of water. Based on the Average person consumption of water per day 100 gallons, 9.5 billion gallons could supply fresh water to a city of 250k for an entire year.
Why: The tests are being done to contend with water shortages. CA has real big water problems as does Las Vegas.
