Lifeguarding Manual
According to the American Red Cross, the Lifeguard manual helps and assists lifeguards to maintain their skills and provide the most effective care in emergency situations.
The manual is not just made as a studying tool, while getting certified, but also helps to refresh the valuable information and techniques for a longer period. Also, participating in In-Service Trainings helps lifeguards to be prepared in case of emergency. There is a new Lifeguard manual that was released in 2017 with some changes, and it’s available online as a pdf file. There are some updates to the techniques for backboard removal from the water when there is a suspected head, neck and spinal injury. When there is a victim with a head, neck and spinal injury suspected on land; the backboard will not be in use anymore as a victim will be instructed to sit down and restrict movement. Modified CPR is no longer used, and CPR with Airway Obstruction is included as the replacement technique.
